by Ivan Petrov, the President ofthe conference
Let me welcome you all to the IMUNG. We have lots of people who came from all over the world. This Conference is a wonderful opportunity for the new generation to become fully engaged in the gravest challenges confronting our world. Today, across the world, more than a billion people live on less than a dollar a day. Three billion survive on less than two dollars a day. More than 100 million school-aged children are not in school. Seven thousand young people become infected with HIV/AIDs every day. Every day, almost 30,000 children die of poverty. These are grim statistics, but there are human faces behind them. All that can be changed, if we work together to meet the Millennium Development Goals, we work together to fight poverty and if we all work together — the Governments, the private sector, non-governmental organizations we will understand that there are no unsolvable problems.
